Types of Lenses
Single Vision Lenses
Single vision lenses correct for one field of vision or one prescription strength.
These types of lenses help with refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Bifocals Lenses
Bifocal lenses are divided into two zones, one for near and one for distance. The top portion of the lens allows for distance viewing while near vision zone is located in the box at the bottom of the lens.
You can clearly see where each zone is on the lens as they’re divided by a visible line or box.
Trifocal lenses
Trifocal lenses are divided into 3 zones – one for near vision, one for intermediate vision and one for distance vision. Like bifocals, trifocal lenses have two clear visible lines delineating each zone.
Progressive Lenses
Progressive lenses are also called multifocal lenses. They have more than one area of focus so you can see clearly at varying distances. They enable you to do tasks that require close-up vision, intermediate vision and distance vision without swapping frames or taking glasses off.
Each zone is blended into one another so the change in power is progressive and there are no lines visible on the lenses. The top portion of the lens helps with distance viewing and comes into play when you look straight ahead. The middle portion is meant for intermediate viewing, such as looking at your computer screen and finally the near vision zone is at the bottom of the lens and is used for near vision tasks such as reading.
